This month’s team spotlight features one of the partners at Safe Harbor. Russ Brown has over two decades of marine insurance experience and an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving.
After 16 years in vessel pollution liability, Russ recognized a big opportunity to combat complacency from the industry’s established providers. He wanted to create an organization with the best partners, world-class service, and the most modern and comprehensive services. In 2013, Russ co-founded Safe Harbor Pollution Insurance with Tony Gerone and successfully established a new name in pollution insurance.
With 22 years of underwriting experience and a degree in Marine Transportation, Russ utilizes his vast industry knowledge to foster Safe Harbor's continued expansion in developing new product lines and maintaining premium ratings, while providing exemplary service to our clients. “One of my favorite aspects of this experience has been the relationships and friendships we have made across the entire industry,” Russ says.
Prior to co-founding Safe Harbor, Russ served as executive vice president and chief underwriting officer for Water Quality Insurance Syndicate, helping to lead the company to five years of historic growth. Russ also held vice president positions with a claims accounting software and a COFR database company, and managed a worldwide network of spill response surveyors.
Russ holds a master’s certificate in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame-Mendoza College of Business. He served on the board of directors for the American Marine Insurance Forum and is retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Lieutenant Commissioned Officer.
