Continuing our series on the people behind Safe Harbor, in this article you’ll meet another partner and founding member of the company: Tony Gerone. Tony started his career writing vessel pollution insurance 20 years ago and has worked solely in the field since.
With the backing of Falvey Insurance Group, Tony and Russ Brown founded Safe Harbor Pollution Insurance in 2013. The impetus for this move was a belief that the vessel pollution market had become too transactional and not enough emphasis was being put on the connections between underwriters, brokers, and assureds.
At Safe Harbor, Tony and Russ have built a culture where the insurance company is more than paper, but rather a partner. Customers can rely upon Safe Harbor to offer assistance through their networks and relationships year-round, whether in the event of a spill or simply with questions that pop up.
“When we formed Safe Harbor,” Tony comments, “we made sure we not only had the best team with the most experience solely dedicated to vessel pollution, but also the largest spill management network with capabilities to handle multiple, significant-sized spills at once.”
Tony’s role includes underwriting and providing industry-best service to customers, as well as collaborating with the marketing team on new campaigns. “My favorite part about my job is being able to work directly with the brokers and assureds to make sure we can resolve any problem that comes up,” Tony says.
Prior to co-founding Safe Harbor, Tony served as assistant vice president of Water Quality Insurance Syndicate for 13 years. He is married with three young sons.
